While the data science and analytics hiring market has remained very active from our position as recruiters, we wanted to survey hiring authorities and see if we could put some numbers to this year’s hiring demand.

Data Science & Analytics Hiring in 2020

A few weeks ago, I sent out a “flash survey” to our network asking data science & analytics teams to describe their hiring plans for the first half of 2020.

According to our respondents, which represented over 150 companies across the US, we found that 67% of data science and analytics teams are planning to hire during Q1 or Q2 of this year. We also looked at how many data science and analytics teams are expanding, meaning they’re actively trying to increase headcount.

We found that 58% teams are growing (this includes all teams that are hiring with the ultimate goal of increasing overall headcount). In regards to the other respondents, 30% reported that they are holding steady (not planning to hire at this time). Only 3% of teams reported that they are cutting back, with a planned reduction to headcount.
